Policy and Strategy

IT Power assists national and local governments in designing policy and regulation aiming to increase and integrate renewable energy production in the existing sectoral and institutional context. This includes the design of effective and efficient support instruments, strategy development and according measures at different actors in the energy sector (government, energy regulators and agencies, transmission and distribution companies, utilities and independent power producers), as well as assessment and monitoring of policy impacts and results.

IT Power provides advice on policy and strategies for national and provincial governments. This work has included a Renewable Energy Masterplan for Syria, the Indicative Rural Electrification Masterplan for Uganda, a Renewable Energy Action Plan for Jilin province, China, and an extensive Training Package on Policy and Regulatory Frameworks for Sustainable Energy, Sub-Saharan Africa.

In the UK, IT Power provides advice to regional and local governments on sustainable energy including strategies, policy recommendations and scoping studies on sustainable energy issues.  Experience includes undertaking evidence based renewable energy studies at District and County level from which policies and local targets have been developed.

In Europe, IT Power is involved in the evaluation of existing and development of new renewable energy policy and regulation; in particular IT Power led the RE-GO project, which designed and clarified the use of Guarantees of Origin, and more recently IT Power is a key partner in the E-TRACK projects (both phase I and II), the results of which fed into the recently proposed Renewable Energy Directive. IT Power is very familiar with the existing support instruments for RE (i.e. feed-in and quota systems) as well as the impact of upcoming EU policy and EU directives might have on the future of these instruments.  In addition IT Power is continuously providing training and implementing capacity building measures for governmental and other public authorities.
