Adlington Environment and Sustainabilty Study

  • The Adlington site in Sheffield is part of a large housing area within the City.  Existing houses have been cleared and a new development of flats, houses and bungalows is planned.  The site forms part of the Housing Market Renewal Programme in South Yorkshire and is a ‘Gold Sheffield Quality Standard’ site requiring architectural and environmental excellence.  This Environmental Sustainability Study provided the developer, their Design Team and Sheffield City Council with information and guidance on the opportunities and challenges for achieving the highest standards of environmental sustainability for the Adlington development.  Specific guidance on the recommended features was provided as well as cost information.
  • IT Power assessed the site specific opportunities and challenges for achieving environmental excellence which in turn will contribute to many of the wider objectives of the Housing Market Renewal.  Targets to meet included:
    • Achievement of Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 and a 10% on-site renewable/low carbon energy requirement.
    • Avoidance of use of any ‘C Rated’ specifications from the Green Building Guide.
    • Minimum energy efficiency ratings of SAP 95 or NHER 9.0.
