In February 2015, Mark Leybourne (Senior Engineer for IT Power UK) and Akanksha Chaurey (CEO of IT Power India) attended the 2015 RE-INVEST renewable energy conference in Delhi. They attended as part of a UK delegation supported by the British High Commission and led by Baroness Verma, Minister of Energy & Climate Change. Huub den Roojen, Head of Offshore Wind at the Crown Estate, and Charles Yates, Managing Director of CmY Consultants, were also within the UK delegation presenting on offshore wind.
This year was the first time that the Indian Government’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) had held RE-INVEST, a conference on the various renewable energy technologies currently being utilised in India. The conference was opened by an inaugural speech from Prime Minister Modi and close to 4,000 people attended over the course of the 3 days.
Mark spoke within the session ‘Grid Connected Wind Power with Focus on Offshore’ and presented a “Roadmap & Recommendations for Offshore Wind in India”. This gave key messages from the deliverables of the UK-India Offshore Wind Co-operation project. Mark also featured on the panel for the side event; ‘Future of offshore lies in Gujarat’ on day 3 of the event. This session focused on India’s first offshore wind, pilot project which is currently being developed by a Joint Venture consortium of the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Power Trading Corporation (PTC) and Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd (GPCL).
Both sessions were attended by various experts and policy makers related to the offshore wind industry. IT Power was technical partner to both of the sessions.
