IT Power Pacific at 18th Annual PPA Conference

Date:
05/10/2009

The Pacific Power Association, an association of power utilities in the Pacific, holds annual conferences for utilities and power sector companies to meet and exchange information and knowledge. The 18th Annual PPA Conference, held in Pago Pago, American Samoa, in August, saw an attendance of over 150 representatives from power utilities, equipment suppliers, and various energy sector consultancies in the Pacific. IT Power was the only renewable energy/climate change consultancy to have a booth at the conference.

The theme of the conference was "Sharing Knowledge and Experience for Practical, Proven Solutions". Two of the Pacific office's staff, Peter Konings and Philippe McCracken, gave presentations on the lessons learned from the off-grid and grid connected PV projects funded under REP-5, the European Union's regional renewable energy project in the Pacific. Under REP-5, IT Power has managed the installation of over 132 kWp of off-grid PV and over 240 kWp of grid-connected PV, as well as solar water heating and prepayment meter (energy efficiency) projects.

The Executive Director of the PPA, Tony Neil, expressed his appreciation to IT Power for their participation in the conference, say that "the presentations were very well received by all the delegates and clearly demonstrated the proactive role that could be provided by IT Power to the Pacific Islands and the PPA".

Next year's conference will be held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The theme will be "Promoting Utility Best Practices for Sustainable Development".
