CDM Opportunities in 5 Least Developed Countries, Africa

CDM opportunities 5LDC AfricaThe Belgian Federal Public Service of Health, Food Chain Safety & Environment

Project: The aim of this project was to identify opportunities to develop programmatic CDM (pCDM) projects in five of the least developed countries in the sub-Saharan Africa.

The five countries were Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

After identifying a number of opportunities, the Belgian government wanted the two most viable projects in each country to be developed further.

Our role: IT Power gave a comprehensive review of pCDM opportunities in Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

We conducted our analysis in 2 phases.

Phase One – Project Identification

IT Power selected 10 potential projects for each country as part of the first phase of our analysis.

In addition, each country was assessed on its appetite to implement the pCDM project and access to financing.

Phase Two – Project Idea Note (PIN) Creation

After presenting the proposed portfolio, two projects were selected to proceed to CDM certification.

IT Power subsequently prepared the Project Idea Notes for two projects per country.
