Project: A 2MW mini-hydropower scheme in Pohnpei (Micronesia) was no longer operating. The site failed to produce electricity and posed a significant problem to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).
IT Power was contracted to assess options to restore the site to full capacity once again.
Our role: IT Power assessed two options to restore the Pohnpei 2MW hydropower site:
- Improve the flow for the existing scheme with enough flow to ensure the 700kW hydropower turbine will operate, and move the second turbine (1.3MW) to another location.
- Increase the river flows to ensure that both turbines have enough flow to operate in their existing location
IT Power submitted recommendations on how best to improve the inoperative 2MW hydropower scheme. We also provided inputs to prepare tender documents for EPC contractors to bid on the project restoration.
